Roland Sands: The Man

Roland hails from Long Beach, California. His life in the motorcycle industry is multifaceted. His first motorcycle was an RM 50 dirt bike, which he received on his 5th birthday, and after a few minutes of riding, he broke a bone but still fell in love with it. His love for speed on two wheels kept him among professional racers for 10 years. He set several track records worldwide and was the 1998 American Motorcyclist Association 250GP champion.

Thirty-two broken bones later, Roland decided to trade racing for a hammer, pencil, and computer, designing and manufacturing motorcycles and custom motorcycle products. In 2005, Sands founded Roland Sands Design. Sands' design is a blend of sportbike and chopper influences. Along with other big names, he played a key role in popularizing high-performance custom motorcycles. Roland and his projects (motorcycles and products) have received numerous awards over the years, including three V-Twin Wheel Design of the Year awards, V-Twin Control Design, Chip Foose Design of Excellence Award at Sturgis, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place in the Modified Harley class at the Custom Bike Building World Championship, V-Twin Award Trendsetter of the Year, Biker Build-Off champion on Discovery Channel, Motorcycle Build-Off Rookie of the Year, and 2Wheel Tuner Brappy Award.

Roland, Roland Sands Design, and the RSD fleet of custom motorcycles have been featured in over 500 magazines worldwide, on the covers of over 100 magazines, and participate in numerous American motorcycle rallies and events, as well as many international shows throughout the year. Sands has also appeared on several TV shows, including Nitro Circus, Chopper Nation, Biker Build-Off, American Thunder, and many others.
